Jesús Misael knew from an early age that his body did not reflect who he was. As a child, he even prayed to wake up as the person he recognised himself to be. His journey of self-discovery began long before he found the words to describe it. From a very young age, he felt a disconnect between his identity and his appearance. He always saw himself more as a boy, but struggled to find information that matched his experience. Early searches online yielded little about trans men, though he later found relatable stories in English-language content.
The turning point came when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. During this difficult time, he sought psychological support and began to understand his identity better. About a month before her death, he came out to her, and she encouraged him to pursue his happiness.
On October 8, 2012, he started hormone therapy. The treatment brought physical changes, including a deeper voice and facial hair. In 2018, he legally changed his name. Coming out to relatives brought mixed reactions, and some family ties became strained for a while.
He eventually began sharing his story publicly. Many trans men reached out, saying they saw parts of their own lives in his experiences. Today, he maintains a stable relationship with his family. His journey, from early confusion to self-acceptance, reflects the challenges and small victories of many in similar situations. The path was not easy, but it led him to live as the person he always knew himself to be.
