Ulm's Mayor Praises Vital Refugee Trauma Care at BFU Centre

Lord Mayor Martin Ansbacher visited the Ulm Centre for Torture Victims (BFU) in June 2026. He praised its professional work and the progress seen in patients’ recovery. The centre provides vital support to refugees in the region. During his visit, Ansbacher noted the centre’s structured approach and its success in treating trauma-affected refugees. He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to supporting the BFU’s efforts.

The BFU offers interpreter-assisted outpatient psychotherapy and psychosocial counselling. Its services help stabilise health, encourage social participation, and aid integration for refugees. Half of its patients come from Ulm, with the rest from seven other districts.

Demand for these specialised services remains high. The centre plays a central role in local psychosocial care and integration programmes. The BFU’s work continues to address critical needs among refugees. Its role in providing trauma care and fostering integration is recognised as essential. City support ensures the centre can maintain its services across the region.
