Medkart Assured Launches to Verify Generic Medicine Quality Amid Rising Patient Doubts
Medkart Pharmacy has launched a new transparency initiative called Medkart Assured. The programme aims to address growing concerns about the quality of generic medicines. It comes as a 2025 study revealed that many patients doubt the safety and effectiveness of generics, especially in oncology and cardiovascular care. The initiative requires every product under Medkart Assured to undergo dual testing at NABL-accredited third-party laboratories. It also aligns procurement with Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, which sets Good Manufacturing Practice standards. Medkart will publish test results, rejections, and testing protocols for all medicines involved.
The company plans to release a Medkart Assured Quality & Transparency Report. This will disclose testing volume, rejection rates, and the therapy areas covered. Medkart pharmacists are also being trained to explain quality differences and address patient concerns about generics.
The move follows a rise in substandard drug samples. In 2025, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation reported 1,879 Not of Standard Quality cases, more than double the previous year. Medkart positions its initiative as a category standard rather than a judgement on individual manufacturers. Medkart Assured seeks to reassure patients that affordability and safety are not mutually exclusive. The company argues that transparency in testing and procurement is the way to prove medicine quality. The initiative will provide public access to detailed quality data for the first time.
