Magadan Women Gain Free IVF Access After Specialist Consultations
Residents of Magadan recently had the chance to meet with a reproductive specialist from St. Petersburg. Anastasia Denisovna Alekseeva, an obstetrician-gynaecologist from EmbryLife Reproduction Center, held free in-person consultations in the city on 20–21 April 2026. The sessions aimed to address infertility concerns and provide guidance on treatment options. A total of 27 women from Magadan attended the consultations. Five of them sought advice on frozen embryo transfer, while another five were recommended for further examination and surgical treatment in their home region. Additionally, 17 women from the Kolyma area received approval for IVF under Russia’s mandatory health insurance scheme and will travel to St. Petersburg for the procedure.
Infertility affects about one in six or seven couples in Russia. It is diagnosed after 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse without conception, or after six months for women over 35. Male factors contribute to infertility in 50–60% of cases, while female factors account for 40–50%. In 20–30% of cases, both partners experience contributing issues.
IVF treatment is covered by mandatory health insurance in Russia for couples with a confirmed infertility diagnosis. Residents of Magadan can also access free online consultations with EmbryLife specialists. The consultations provided Magadan’s residents with direct access to expert advice and treatment pathways. Seventeen women will now proceed with IVF in St. Petersburg under insurance coverage. The sessions highlighted the availability of both in-person and online support for those facing fertility challenges.
