Uttar Pradesh schools roll out heat wave safety plans for 2026
The Uttar Pradesh Government has introduced new measures to protect students from heat waves in schools. The Basic Education Department has released the 'Teachers' Guideline-2026 for Sensitising Students Towards Heat-related Illnesses' for the upcoming academic year. Every school must now create a School Heat Action Plan. This includes appointing a Health Nodal Teacher and keeping records of heat-related incidents. Regular reviews of these records will also be conducted.
School timings will follow government directions, with outdoor activities scheduled before 10 a.m. Clean drinking water will be available at all times, and students will be encouraged to drink every 20 to 30 minutes. Posters will raise awareness among children, parents, and staff about heat protection.
Teachers will educate students on heat safety during morning assemblies and lessons. The guideline also trains staff to recognise heat-related symptoms and provide first aid. If a student shows signs of heat illness, they must be moved to a shaded area immediately for treatment. These steps aim to ensure a safer, healthier, and climate-resilient environment for students. Schools will implement the new guidelines to reduce risks during extreme heat. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to child welfare in changing weather conditions.
