Daughter, 19, Avoids Murder Conviction Over Mental Illness in Violent Attack on Mother

A 19-year-old daughter has been committed to a forensic psychiatric facility after a court found her not guilty of attempted murder due to mental illness. The trial followed a violent attack on her 54-year-old mother in Wiener Neustadt in September 2025. The incident began when the daughter allegedly stabbed her mother twice in the back and shoulder. The mother managed to escape and call the police before being airlifted to Krems Hospital for emergency surgery. Authorities had been called to the apartment multiple times before over violent disputes.

The attack was reportedly triggered by the daughter’s belief that her mother intended to harm her dog. Following the assault, the daughter jumped from a sixth-floor window, surviving a 16-metre fall with severe injuries.

The trial was held behind closed doors at the defence’s request. The court heard that the daughter had a history of sexual abuse, drug abuse, and long-standing mental health issues. Her lawyer argued she needed help and wanted the chance to build a normal life and pursue a career. The jury ruled the daughter not guilty by reason of mental illness. She will now receive treatment in a forensic psychiatric unit. The case highlights the serious injuries sustained by both women during the attack.
