New York enforces strict age checks for weight loss and muscle supplements

A new law in New York State now requires companies selling weight loss or muscle building supplements to verify the age of their customers. The regulation came into force on 22 April and applies to a range of products. Businesses are being urged to review their offerings to ensure compliance. The law mandates age verification for supplements containing certain ingredients. These include creatine, green tea extract, raspberry ketone, Garcinia cambogia, green coffee bean extract, steroids, or FDA-approved weight loss or muscle building substances.

The U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York recently rejected a request for a preliminary injunction from the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN). Meanwhile, the Natural Products Association (NPA) has filed a separate legal challenge against the state law.

Companies are advised to assess whether their products fall under the new requirements. A thorough review of product lines is recommended to identify which items are affected. The law is now active and businesses must act to meet its demands. Failure to comply could result in legal consequences. For specific cases, companies are encouraged to seek professional legal advice.
