Maharashtra's first cancer care Patient Navigation training graduates 73 professionals

A group of 73 healthcare professionals from Maharashtra has completed a specialised training programme in Patient Navigation for cancer care. The initiative aims to enhance support for patients across the country. Tata Memorial Centre and ECHO India jointly launched the programme under Cancer Care Bharat. The Patient Navigation in Oncology Care Programme was the first of its kind in the region. It ran as an eight-session online course featuring expert lectures, case discussions, mentoring, and hands-on learning. Ms Nishu Singh Goel, Program Head at TMC-Kevat, designed and led the curriculum.

Participants included Medical Officers from NHM Maharashtra and representatives from BMC. The training received backing from NHM Maharashtra, SIHFW Nagpur, and BMC. Tata Memorial Centre served as the Academic Hub for Treatment & Care and Patient Navigation.

A certificate distribution ceremony for the first batch is scheduled for June 27, 2026, at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. Future batches of the Patient Navigation ECHO Programme will extend to West Bengal and Gujarat. The programme is part of a broader effort to train nearly 17,500 healthcare professionals in India. Its goal is to strengthen cancer care delivery nationwide. The first batch marks a step towards expanding access to Patient Navigation training across different states.
