Palghar district overhauls healthcare with maternal and emergency service upgrades

The district administration of Palghar has unveiled a series of measures to boost healthcare services. The initiatives aim to strengthen maternal and child health, improve emergency response, and upgrade medical infrastructure in remote areas. New hospitals were added to the district’s network in May 2026. This expansion increases access to quality healthcare under government schemes for local residents.

To enhance maternal care, every maternal death will now undergo a detailed review. The goal is to identify systemic gaps and improve referral mechanisms. Maternal and Child Control Rooms have also been set up at district, taluka, and Primary Health Centre levels to monitor pregnant women and newborns.

Under the Anaemia-Free Campaign, the district will screen individuals aged 0-40 for Sickle Cell Disease. Targeted interventions will address severe anaemia cases. Women’s Self-Help Groups will provide nutritious supplementary food to children with Severe Acute Malnutrition and Moderate Acute Malnutrition in vulnerable areas.

Emergency medical services will see GPS-based monitoring of 108 and 102 ambulances in remote talukas. This aims to reduce response times for critical cases. Medical Officers have been directed to stay at their assigned PHCs and Rural Hospitals to ensure continuous service availability.

Plans are underway to procure advanced TB NAAT diagnostic machines and digital X-ray facilities. Healthcare institutions are also being supported to meet National Quality Assurance Standards certification. Additionally, Ayushman Bharat registration camps will align with Revenue Department camps to achieve full coverage of eligible beneficiaries. These steps are designed to improve healthcare delivery across Palghar district. They focus on better maternal and child health, faster emergency responses, and stronger public health infrastructure. The measures also aim to ensure wider access to diagnostic and treatment services.
