Shymkent's Oncology Center Performs First Laparoscopic Pancreatic Surgery
Shymkent’s Multidisciplinary Oncology Center has carried out its first laparoscopic pancreatic surgery. The procedure, a laparatopic pancreatoduodenectomy, marks a significant step in local cancer treatment. Specialists from Astana provided key support during the operation. The surgery was part of an educational masterclass led by Anuar Abdikarimov, an oncologist from Astana. He performed demonstration procedures to share expertise with local medical staff. Talgat Kurmanov, director of the Shymkent center, highlighted the importance of adopting advanced cancer treatment methods.
Laparoscopic techniques offer clear benefits for patients. These include less pain after surgery, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery. The center already performs over 300 high-tech procedures each year, including various interventional methods.
The development of such surgeries depends on ongoing knowledge exchange among specialists. This collaboration helps improve access to complex care for residents in Shymkent, reducing the need for travel to larger cities. The successful procedure means Shymkent residents can now receive advanced pancreatic surgery locally. This progress aligns with the growing global demand for high-tech oncology care. The center continues to expand its capabilities in treating complex cancer cases.
