Falls from windows remain a serious cause of childhood injuries in Astana, particularly during spring and summer. Children aged one to five are the most frequent victims of such accidents. In 2023, the city recorded 31 window fall incidents involving children, with one fatality. The following year saw a sharp rise, with 63 incidents and four deaths. By 2025, the number had climbed to 85, including nine fatalities.
Authorities have responded with preventive measures. These include regular inspections, public awareness campaigns, and the installation of window locks. Police have also conducted 5,652 lectures on safety and organised 275 parent-teacher meetings to educate families.
As of 23 June 2026, the '112' emergency hotline has received 29 reports of children falling from windows. So far this year, no fatalities have been reported. Window falls can cause severe injuries such as traumatic brain damage, fractures, and internal organ damage. The ongoing efforts aim to reduce incidents and protect young children. The data shows a persistent risk, though fatal outcomes have decreased in recent months.
