Brits spend £15bn yearly on wellness apps—why payment ease matters most

Brits are spending billions each year on wellness services through mobile apps and platforms. A new report shows that £15 billion is spent annually, with fitness being a major driver. Many users, however, demand smooth payment experiences to complete their bookings. Nearly a third of UK adults now use platforms to book fitness services. In fact, 60% of adults regularly do so. Fitness remains one of the top reasons for using these digital tools.

Payment convenience plays a crucial role in user decisions. 71% would abandon a booking if the payment process is poor. Meanwhile, 42% actively seek out platforms with simple and secure payment options.

Younger generations are leading the trend. Gen Z and Millennials together account for half of the total spend on these platforms. Usage is also growing, with 55% of Gen Z and 50% of Millennials using platforms more than they did two years ago.

Beyond fitness, 13% of UK adults use these platforms to discover and support independent businesses. Refund expectations are also high, with 84% anticipating a refund within 48 hours if a service is cancelled. The demand for seamless booking experiences is clear. Poor payment processes deter a significant number of users from completing their purchases. The market continues to grow, particularly among younger consumers who prioritise convenience and speed.
