Quick CPR and AEDs save man after sudden collapse in Caleta de Velez

A man collapsed suddenly while walking along the promenade in Caleta de Velez on Friday, May 8. Witnesses reported symptoms that suggested a cardiac arrest. Quick action from bystanders and emergency services followed. An off-duty nurse immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the man. Paramedics and local police officers arrived shortly after and stabilised the patient, who later regained vital signs.

Public access defibrillators (AEDs) are available in several locations near the promenades in Torre del Mar and Caleta de Velez. One is situated at the Paseo Marítimo in Torre del Mar, close to the lighthouse. Lifeguard stations along the beaches also carry AEDs during the season.

AEDs are designed for anyone to use in an emergency, not just medical professionals. The devices provide clear voice prompts to guide users through each step. Regular CPR training sessions are held in the area to prepare both residents and visitors. The patient received immediate care and showed signs of recovery. AEDs and trained bystanders played a crucial role in the response. These resources remain available for public use in similar emergencies.
