DOH confirms new Mpox case in Mandaluyong amid declining 2026 trend

The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a confirmed Mpox case in Mandaluyong City. Officials have stated there is no cause for alarm, as the country has seen a drop in overall cases this year. From January 1 to June 13, 2026, the DOH recorded 44 Mpox cases nationwide. This figure marks a 79% decrease compared to the 205 cases reported during the same period in 2025. The agency confirmed the latest case through the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) on June 29, 2026.

The DOH emphasised that there is no outbreak or rise in infections. It also clarified that it does not disclose details of individual cases to prevent stigma and uphold data privacy laws. Responsibility for managing the Mandaluyong case has been delegated to the local government unit (LGU).

Under Republic Act No. 11332, LGUs hold the authority to issue public health advisories. The DOH has reassured the public that the situation remains under control. The DOH continues to monitor Mpox trends closely. With fewer cases in 2026, authorities maintain that the risk to the public is low. Local governments are expected to take necessary steps in line with national health guidelines.
