Fürth celebrates the start of asparagus season with a ceremonial harvest

The asparagus season in the Fürth district and the city of Fürth has officially started. A ceremonial first harvest took place at Rotter Farm in Ritzmannshof, marking the beginning of the season. District Administrator Bernd Obst and Fürth’s Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Jung attended the event to launch the harvest. The Rotter family, who have grown asparagus for over 50 years, hosted the ceremony on their farm.

Rotter Farm cultivates around 70 hectares of land, with one hectare dedicated to asparagus. Christoph Rotter, the sixth generation to run the farm, emphasised the role of innovation and teamwork in their success. The family also prioritises sustainability, using a biogas plant and solar panels to power their operations.

The Rotter family sells their asparagus only through their farm shop and local restaurants. Known for its health benefits, asparagus is rich in vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. It also has natural diuretic properties. The season brings fresh produce to the region along with a boost to well-being. Local residents can now enjoy asparagus while supporting sustainable farming practices at Rotter Farm.
