Beauty's New Era: How Longevity Is Redefining the Industry in 2026
A recent study reveals shifting attitudes towards beauty and longevity among consumers. The 2026 graduating class of FIT’s Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management programme explored these trends in a presentation on the beauty industry’s evolving focus on longevity. Consumers increasingly view beauty products as part of a broader wellness strategy. Younger adults aged 18-29 and those over 60 see such products as investments in their long-term health. However, not everyone associates beauty with longevity, as understandings of the concept vary.
Macroeconomic uncertainty and the influence of social media have shaped this long-term, health-oriented mindset. A survey of 1,654 people found that 65% already use products supporting longevity, while 83% are open to trying them. Brands that succeed will be those that authentically translate scientific advancements into trustworthy solutions.
Experts warn against 'longevity-washing', a practice that could erode consumer confidence. Instead, companies should focus on proactive ageing solutions and educate consumers about wellness factors. Investment in research, patents, and personalised offerings will also play a key role in the longevity era. The beauty industry’s future may hinge on brands that prioritise authenticity and science-backed solutions. With a significant portion of consumers already engaged, the focus on living better for longer is set to grow. Trust and transparency will remain critical for brands aiming to lead in this space.
