A stroke awareness campaign titled 'STOP Stroke!' took place at the School of the Third Age on October 23. The event formed part of a week of activities leading up to World Stroke Day on October 29. Attendees received training on stroke prevention, early symptoms, and emergency response. Chief neurologist Tatiana Nikolaeva delivered a lecture on stroke prevention. She highlighted the importance of regular medical check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and managing risk factors. Healthy habits, including exercise, balanced nutrition, and avoiding alcohol and smoking, were emphasised as effective ways to lower stroke risk.

Participants also learned about different stroke types, their risk factors, and how to spot early warning signs. Experts explained critical first aid steps and stressed the significance of the 'golden hour' for patient survival. They also clarified common mistakes to avoid when assisting someone experiencing a stroke.

Social educator Maria Antonova contributed a talk on memory problems. Her session covered causes, prevention strategies, and the connection between memory health and overall well-being. The campaign provided practical knowledge on stroke recognition and response. Attendees left with a clearer understanding of preventive measures and the urgency of timely medical intervention. The lectures and training aimed to equip the community with life-saving skills.
