Yakutian Cattle Meat Holds Secret to Exceptional Heart Health Benefits
A new study has revealed the exceptional health benefits of Yakutian cattle meat and liver. Published in the journal Foods, the research highlights their record-high omega-3 content and potential to prevent cardiovascular disease. Yakutian cattle are a rare native breed living in the northeastern region of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Their meat and liver contain unusually high levels of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. These levels exceed those found in other livestock and even some fish species.
The ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids in their beef and liver is twice the WHO’s recommended value. This balance contributes to anti-atherogenic properties, helping to inhibit plaque buildup, lower cholesterol, and reduce blood clot formation. In some respects, the quality of their meat and liver rivals that of certain fish.
Researchers now urge efforts to increase the Yakutian cattle population while maintaining their natural living conditions and diet. Currently, only a few thousand of these animals remain. The findings suggest Yakutian cattle could play a key role in promoting heart health. Their unique fatty acid profile offers significant cardiovascular benefits. Preserving and expanding the breed may provide a sustainable source of these valuable nutrients.
