Kazakhstan's PollenVax enters Phase II trials to combat wormwood allergies

Kazakhstan has reached a key moment in its biopharmaceutical sector. Scientists from the National Agrarian Research University have begun Phase II clinical trials for PollenVax, a new drug targeting wormwood pollen allergies. The project aims to tackle one of the country’s most widespread seasonal health issues. Wormwood pollen allergies affect many in Kazakhstan, with about 30% of seasonal allergy cases linked to this trigger. PollenVax, produced by OtarBioPharm LLP under strict GMP standards, offers a faster treatment option. Patients need only four weekly injections.

Phase I trials involved 30 volunteers and showed the drug was safe and well-tolerated. Regulatory approval has now cleared the way for Phase II. This next stage will include 138 adults aged 18 to 65 with confirmed allergic rhinitis. The trial is randomised, double-blind, and placebo-controlled, with each participant monitored for up to 180 days. The launch of Phase II trials marks a step forward for domestic allergy treatment. PollenVax could provide a shorter, effective solution for wormwood pollen sufferers. Success in these trials may also strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in biopharmaceutical innovation.
