The 13th interdisciplinary conference on domestic violence took place in Braunschweig on Thursday. It brought together around 180 professionals from different fields to discuss critical issues surrounding abuse and mental health. The event focused on the link between domestic violence and mental health. Experts explored the challenges faced by victims suffering from psychological trauma or illness as a result of abuse. They also examined how to address perpetrators whose actions may be driven by mental health conditions.
Presentations covered a range of topics, including psychosocial support during legal proceedings. Attendees also heard about the work of Munich’s women’s shelter and gained psychiatric insights into domestic violence. The conference provided a space for expert exchange, generating ideas to improve support for those affected.
Police President Thomas Ring stressed the need for collaboration across professions to tackle domestic violence. Public Prosecutor General Detlev Rust called for tailored support measures for victims with mental health struggles. The conference highlighted current developments, support services, and practical approaches to addressing domestic violence. It reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary efforts to strengthen protection and assistance for victims.
