CDU Politician Ploß Demands Sunscreen Dispensers in Cities

Germany's heatwave crisis exposes gaps in public safety measures

Christoph Ploß, a CDU lawmaker and the federal government’s tourism commissioner, has warned about Germany’s lack of preparedness for extreme heat. He stressed the urgent need for better strategies to protect the public during heatwaves. Ploß highlighted that many German cities still do not have effective plans to tackle rising temperatures. He called for immediate measures to address the issue.

Among his proposals were the creation of cool zones and the planting of more trees to lower urban temperatures. He also recommended installing drinking fountains and water dispensers to provide relief. Additionally, Ploß suggested placing sunscreen dispensers in public areas to reduce health risks.

The conservative Union bloc has supported the idea of introducing sunscreen dispensers nationwide. Ploß emphasised that air-conditioned spaces should also be expanded to offer shelter from extreme heat. The proposals aim to improve public safety and comfort during heatwaves. Cities may now consider adopting these measures to better protect residents and visitors. The focus remains on practical steps to reduce heat-related risks.
