Major reforms reshape healthcare with new laws and university honors
The national healthcare system has seen several key developments recently. New laws and initiatives aim to strengthen medical training, safety, and recognition for healthcare workers across the country. A law to improve practical training for medical personnel was signed by the head of state. The same authority has also prioritised the healthcare sector’s growth. Additionally, a new law now imposes harsher criminal penalties for attacks on medical staff.
Modern surveillance systems are being installed in healthcare facilities to enhance safety. Mandatory professional liability insurance for medical workers has also been introduced.
Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova marked Medical Workers’ Day by congratulating professionals in the field. She described the medical profession as valuable, demanding, and vital to society. A ceremonial event for healthcare workers took place at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation in Astana.
Two medical universities have been renamed in honour of their founders. Karaganda Medical University now bears the name of Pyotr Pospelov. Astana Medical University has been granted national status and renamed after Toregeldy Sharmanov. These measures reflect ongoing efforts to support and protect medical professionals. The changes also aim to improve training standards and security in healthcare settings. The renaming of universities further recognises the contributions of key figures in the field.
