Nicosia University champions movement with Exercise is Medicine week
The University of Nicosia hosted the Exercise is Medicine On Campus week from 4 to 9 May 2026. The event formed part of a global initiative to promote physical activity as a key element of public health. Activities took place across the campus with the support of students and staff. The university, an official partner of Exercise is Medicine® Cyprus, coordinated the week’s events through its Sport Science programme. Professors Christoforos Giannaki, Dr Penelope Stavrinos, Andreas Mavrommatis and Konstantina Constantinou led the organisation alongside a team of students.
Informative presentations highlighted the role of exercise in preventing and managing chronic diseases. Students also joined physical activities arranged with the UNIC Run Club. Posters around the campus shared WHO exercise guidelines and messages encouraging movement.
Exercise is Medicine® Cyprus aims to improve quality of life through scientific education and collaboration. The initiative seeks to embed physical activity firmly within public health strategies across the country. The week-long event brought together staff, students and the wider university community. It reinforced the message that regular physical activity is essential for long-term health. The university plans to continue its involvement in the global programme.
