Boy, 12, Turns Car Crash Recovery Into Candyfloss Business and Inspiration

Twelve-year-old Hashir Yahya Aziz from Shipley will run a candyfloss stall at the North London Youth Gala this Sunday. He will also give a speech about his journey after surviving a serious car crash in May 2023. The event will include performances by Muslim Belal and B-Shaf. Hashir began making candyfloss one-handed while recovering from injuries sustained in the crash. His fractures included a broken ribcage and collapsed lungs. Despite ongoing health challenges, he has since turned his hobby into a small business and has been hired for 20 events.

At charity events, he donates his candyfloss and ingredients for free. On Sunday, he will hand out free candyfloss to over 300 attendees at the Edmonton Mosque community event. Hashir will also share his story to inspire others to stay positive after difficult experiences.

More surgeries are planned for 2026, including an operation on his left thumb, which still has limited movement. The North London Youth Gala will highlight Hashir’s resilience and entrepreneurship. His speech and free candyfloss stall aim to bring joy to the event. The day will also feature music and other activities for the community.
