Fewer Rescue Flights for ADAC Helicopters in Southwest Germany - ADAC Helicopters See Second Straight Year of Fewer Emergency Missions in 2025

ADAC rescue helicopters responded to fewer emergencies in 2025 for the second consecutive year. Across Germany, crews handled 48,908 missions, covering every federal state. Baden-Württemberg experienced a notable drop, with just 1,475 missions recorded last year.

The decrease in missions can be attributed partly to poor weather grounding flights and new rules enabling paramedics to handle more cases on the ground. Despite this, ADAC's helicopters remained active nationwide, with Bayern leading the list at 11,742 missions. Rheinland-Pfalz followed with 7,786, while Nordrhein-Westfalen and Niedersachsen each logged over 5,300 missions.

Baden-Württemberg relied on twelve helicopters from five neighboring states for coverage. Christoph 22, based at Ulm's Bundeswehr Hospital, was the busiest, responding to 915 emergencies. Some bases, including Ulm's, now operate after dark, providing year-round service until 8:00 PM.

Most missions involved accident victims, with cardiac emergencies ranking second. Nationwide, the 'flying yellow angels' were dispatched to nearly 49,000 incidents in total.

The 2025 figures confirm a downward trend in air rescue deployments. Fewer missions were logged in Baden-Württemberg, while other states maintained higher callout volumes. Extended operating hours at certain bases reflect efforts to adapt to changing demand.
