AI and Mobile Apps Revolutionize Heart Failure Treatment in Europe

A major European project is tackling heart failure with advanced AI tools and a new mobile app. The STRATIFYHF consortium, made up of 15 partners from 11 countries, has developed a cloud-based system to help doctors assess risks, diagnose patients earlier, and improve treatment. Heart failure affects around 15 million people across Europe, leading to high healthcare costs and reduced quality of life for many patients.

The project brings together universities, research centres, and eight leading clinical sites. These include University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands, Charité in Berlin, and University College London, among others. Together, they have gathered data from 5,624 confirmed heart failure cases, 4,465 suspected cases, and 11 million at-risk patient records.

STRATIFYHF's core innovation is a Decision Support System that combines patient-specific data with AI algorithms. This system helps doctors predict disease progression and personalise treatment plans. Alongside it, the mAIHeart mobile app offers patients a secure, user-friendly way to manage their condition.

The consortium has also set up a regulatory and quality framework to ensure the system meets clinical standards. Economic studies are underway to assess cost-effectiveness, aiming to make the solution both affordable and sustainable for healthcare providers.

The project's tools are designed to cut hospital admissions, improve patient outcomes, and ease the burden on healthcare systems. With AI-driven risk assessment and a scalable mobile app, STRATIFYHF aims to transform heart failure management across Europe. Clinical trials and economic reviews will determine its long-term impact in the coming years.
