Amazon Pharmacy expands with faster deliveries and caregiver tools amid pharmacy closures
Amazon Pharmacy is expanding its prescription services to cover more areas and introduce new features. The company now offers faster deliveries, a low-cost medication subscription, and tools for caregivers managing family prescriptions.
The move comes as local pharmacy closures in some states have left residents with fewer options for accessing essential medicines.
Amazon Pharmacy already delivers prescriptions to all 50 US states and Washington, DC. This year, it will add around 2,000 new locations for same-day delivery, bringing the total to over 4,500. The expansion targets underserved regions, including parts of Idaho and Massachusetts, where pharmacy closures have limited access to care.
For Amazon Prime members, the RxPass programme provides significant savings on medications. At $5 a month, subscribers can access generic drugs at up to 80% off and brand-name medications at up to 40% off. The service aims to help uninsured or underinsured individuals afford essential treatments.
In addition to home delivery, Amazon Pharmacy has installed prescription pick-up kiosks in select clinic lobbies. These kiosks will expand further in 2025, offering another convenient way for patients to collect their medications.
A new caregiver support feature was also introduced this year. It allows families to manage prescriptions and medical subscriptions for elderly relatives or dependents, simplifying the process of coordinating care.
The expansion will increase same-day delivery options and provide more affordable medication access through RxPass. With additional kiosks and caregiver tools, Amazon Pharmacy is broadening its reach in areas where traditional pharmacies have closed. The changes aim to make prescription management easier for patients and their families.
