Assam's Nagaon trains 150 workers to combat maternal malnutrition

A three-day training programme on maternal nutrition has concluded in Nagaon district, Assam. The event brought together 150 Anganwadi and health workers to improve their skills in tackling malnutrition among pregnant women and children.

The initiative was jointly organised by Assam Agricultural University, UNICEF, the District Administration, and the Women and Child Development Department. Experts from these organisations led sessions on nutrition-sensitive agriculture, dietary diversity, and micronutrient supplementation, along with community-based strategies.

Participants focused on practical skills to address maternal malnutrition in rural areas. Devahuti Bora, Additional District Commissioner, highlighted the critical role of proper nutrition for mothers and newborns. Bholanath Pegu, District Social Welfare Officer, presented Nagaon's nutritional data and explained government schemes aimed at improving maternal health. Abhinav Bora, District Coordinator of Nutrition Mission, also stressed the need for better coordination between departments. At the end of the training, all attendees pledged to apply their new knowledge in their daily fieldwork.

The programme aims to strengthen the delivery of nutrition services in rural Nagaon. By equipping frontline workers with updated skills, it supports the broader goals of Assam's Nutrition Mission. Improved maternal and child health outcomes are expected as a result.
