Bad Hersfeld's New Psychosomatic Clinic Opens July 2026 for Complex Care Needs

The Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Klinik am Hainberg in Bad Hersfeld is expanding its services. A new Psychosomatic Outpatient Clinic (PSIA) will open on 1 July 2026 to offer structured therapy for patients with complex needs. The facility aims to bridge the gap between standard outpatient care and full hospitalisation. Chief Physician Dr. Kathrin Zittlau is leading the project to develop an innovative care model. The PSIA will provide individualised, holistic treatment at a high medical standard, as Managing Director Sebastian Mock explains. It targets patients with intertwined mental and physical conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, and somatoform symptoms.

The clinic’s approach combines medical and psychotherapeutic care with group and individual sessions. This multimodal treatment is designed for those who require more support than traditional outpatient services but do not need full inpatient care. The PSIA strengthens the region’s psychosomatic care network by linking outpatient treatment with day-clinic and inpatient services. The new clinic begins operations in mid-2026. It will provide a critical intermediate option for patients with higher treatment needs. The expansion reinforces the existing healthcare infrastructure in the region.
