Bad Kissingen Hosts Free Dementia Awareness Event This Month

An informational afternoon on dementia will take place in Bad Kissingen later this month. Organised by GutePflege Landkreis Bad Kissingen, the event aims to help attendees better understand the condition and how to support those affected. It will also offer practical advice for families and carers dealing with the daily challenges dementia brings. The event, titled 'Understanding and Supporting Dementia', will run from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22. It will be held at the Catholic Community Center on Hartmannstraße 2, with free admission and no need to register.

A key feature of the afternoon is the Dementia Experience Course. Through interactive stations, visitors will step into the perspective of someone living with dementia. The course is designed to build empathy, patience, and a deeper understanding of the difficulties people face—such as recognising familiar places or managing simple tasks.

Rita Hillenbrand, the lead organiser from GutePflege Landkreis Bad Kissingen, has highlighted the wide-reaching impact of dementia. She notes that the condition doesn't just affect those diagnosed but also their families and wider social networks. The event will provide guidance on available support services, care options, and practical strategies for everyday life.

Attendees can expect to leave with clearer knowledge of how to interact with dignity and respect. The focus is on reducing fears and offering actionable ways to assist those living with dementia. The session will combine firsthand experiences with expert-led advice. By the end, participants should feel better equipped to support loved ones and engage with care structures. Free and open to all, the event offers a chance to learn in a supportive environment.
