Braunschweig’s lantern procession honors children facing life-limiting illnesses

A lantern procession will take place in Braunschweig on February 10 to mark Children’s Hospice Care Day. Organised by Löwenherz and SONne, the main event aims to raise awareness of children and young people facing life-limiting illnesses. Families and supporters are invited to join with lanterns from 5 p.m. at Schloss-Arkaden shopping centre.

The procession is part of a wider effort to highlight the challenges faced by seriously ill children and their families. Löwenherz, a local children’s hospice support centre, has teamed up with SONne, a mobile hospice service, to encourage public engagement. Both organisations want to break the silence around child and adolescent death.

Participants can join spontaneously, bringing their own lanterns. Organisers Tobias Capelle of Löwenherz and Carina Poßberg of SONne hope the event will spark conversations about hospice care. They stress the importance of community support for affected families. The procession starts at Schloss-Arkaden, offering a visible way to show solidarity. By lighting lanterns, attendees will honour children with life-limiting conditions and the families caring for them.
