Calahonda's charity walk urges men to prioritize health and check-ups

A charity walk called Don’t Be a Man – Step Up & Get a Check Up will take place on Sunday, May 17. The event aims to raise awareness about men’s health while funding vital medical equipment and mental health support in the local area. Organisers hope to encourage more men to attend regular check-ups and speak openly about their well-being. The 9km walk begins at 10am from Dempsey’s Irish Bar in Dona Lola, Calahonda. Participants will follow a scenic coastal route, stopping at Biddy Mulligan’s La Cala for refreshments before continuing to Garden Bar and returning to the starting point.

Entry costs €10, which covers a commemorative T-shirt and lunch. All proceeds will support free PSA prostate cancer testing, the purchase of a defibrillator for the Dona Lola complex, and the local mental health initiative *Walk & Talk Somer Wood*. After the walk, entertainment will be provided by Crissie and Monkey Tennis. Several local businesses, including Bed Warehouse Spain S.L, Bronzed Tanning Studio Riviera, Biddy Mulligan’s La Cala, Dempsey’s Irish Bar, and Garden Bar Rocas del Mar, are sponsoring the event to help boost its impact.

The event combines fitness, community support, and health awareness into a single day. Funds raised will directly benefit prostate cancer testing, emergency medical equipment, and mental health services. Organisers have urged men of all ages to take part and prioritise their health.
