Chemnitz Theater has launched a new concert series designed for people living with dementia. Called Space for Resonance, the initiative offers a welcoming environment for attendees and their loved ones. Over 100,000 people in Saxony alone are affected by dementia, a condition that becomes more common with age.

The programme aims to create social connection and a sense of belonging through music. Research suggests that musical memories remain accessible even as dementia progresses, making music a powerful way to engage with those affected. The concerts will feature familiar pieces like Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and the folk song All the Birds Are Already Here.

Attendees are invited to sing along, adding to the inclusive atmosphere. While the exact number of performances hasn't been announced, the theatre plans to continue the series until at least the end of 2025. Across Germany, dementia affects around 1.8 million people, with Saxony accounting for roughly 104,000 cases.
