Davao City launches free mall-based healthcare clinics on Labour Day 2026

Over 400 people received free healthcare services during a Labour Day event in Davao City. The initiative, led by PhilHealth’s regional office, marked the launch of mall-based Yakap clinics under the Yaman ng Kalusugan programme. Officials said the move aims to make medical support more accessible by placing clinics in shopping centres. The event took place on 1 May 2026 at Ayala Malls Abreeza. Attendees underwent initial consultations and were enrolled in the Yakap system. They also gained access to medicines through the Gamot programme.

Staff assisted participants with membership registration, validation, and onboarding to the government’s eGovPH platform. Educational sessions explained how to use Yakap and Gamot benefits. PhilHealth officials described the initiative as part of a broader effort to integrate healthcare into public spaces.

PhilHealth Regional Vice President Harvey L. Carcedo emphasised the importance of bringing services closer to communities. The Davao Region now has 185 accredited Yakap clinics serving over 1.12 million registered beneficiaries. The expansion of mall-based clinics is expected to further improve access to essential medical care. The Labour Day event introduced a new model for healthcare delivery in Davao. By locating clinics in malls, PhilHealth aims to reduce barriers for residents seeking medical support. The programme’s growth reflects ongoing efforts to streamline access to consultations and medicines.
