Delaware schools reveal hidden dangers in teens' bedrooms this week

West Delaware Middle and High Schools are hosting a special safety display this week. The event, called Hidden In Plain Sight, will run during Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday and Thursday. Organisers hope it will help parents spot warning signs of risky behaviour in their children's lives.

The interactive exhibit transforms a mock teenager's bedroom into an educational tool. Parents can explore the space and learn to recognise drug-related items disguised as everyday objects. Prevention Specialist Megan Drake, from the Healthy Delaware County Coalition, is leading the project.

The display will be open from 2 to 6:30 pm on both days. Manchester Police Chief Ben Davis will attend to offer guidance and answer questions. The initiative encourages families to discuss safety and awareness openly.

At least five high schools in Delaware County, Ohio, have tested similar programmes since 2024. However, no official records confirm how many schools across the county currently use this approach.

The event targets parents of students at both the middle and high school levels. By highlighting hidden dangers, it aims to strengthen communication between parents and children. The school district has not announced plans for future sessions beyond this week.
