Dhar jeweller's suicide sparks community demand for justice amid market turmoil

A delegation from the Sarafa Association and Agarwal community gathered at the Kotwali police station and SP's office in Dhar this week. They demanded a thorough investigation into the suicide of Hariram Agarwal, a prominent member of the community and owner of Shri Hari Jewellers in Dhar. Hariram Agarwal, due to growing financial pressure, took his own life amidst sharp changes in gold and silver prices that left many traders in the community struggling. Customers were also demanding the return of old jewellery, with some reportedly harassing shopkeepers and threatening legal action.

The delegation submitted a formal memorandum to authorities, urging fairness in the investigation. CSP Dhar Sujawal Jagga has since been assigned as the investigating officer. Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi responded by assuring a careful and impartial approach to the case.

Police station heads have been instructed to handle the matter with sensitivity. The community's concerns centre on both the circumstances of Agarwal's death and broader tensions between traders and customers.

The investigation into Hariram Agarwal's death is now underway, led by CSP Sujawal Jagga. Authorities have pledged to address the issues raised by the Sarafa Association and Agarwal community. The case highlights ongoing challenges faced by jewellers in Dhar due to market instability and customer disputes.
