Disabled man dies after falling from nursing home window under '24/7 supervision'
A 56-year-old man with disabilities has died after falling from a third-floor window at a specialised nursing home in Sosnovka. The incident took place overnight between June 7 and 8, 2026, at the Vilyuisk facility, which had promised residents 'round-the-clock supervision'. The Vilyuisk Specialized Nursing Home for the Elderly and Disabled opened in July 2021 under Russia’s national Demography project. Marketed as the country’s first facility of its kind, the three-storey, 4,600-square-metre building included medical offices, specialised dormitories, and modern amenities.
The home employed 75 staff members, all tasked with ensuring constant care for residents. Despite these measures, prosecutors are now examining how the man could fall from a window while under supervision. The Vilyuisk District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an inspection into the facility’s compliance with safety and social service regulations. Investigators will determine whether any breaches contributed to the incident and have warned of legal action if violations are uncovered.
Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. The findings will determine whether the nursing home failed to meet its safety obligations. Further steps will depend on the outcome of the inspection.
