A woman in Lower Saxony has been convicted after posing as a doctor and treating patients without any medical qualifications. The court found her guilty of multiple charges, including grievous bodily harm and fraud, following a series of dangerous procedures she performed on at least seven victims. The woman had only completed four semesters of medical school before forging academic records to gain entry into a clinic in Meppen. There, she carried out medical treatments—suturing wounds and administering anaesthetic injections—despite having no proper training. Investigators later confirmed that her actions were based on random decisions, with procedures that could have led to fatal outcomes. The court ruled that her behaviour posed a severe risk to patients and the wider public. Psychological assessments revealed she suffered from a moderate personality disorder, narcissistic traits, and an obsessive compulsion to practice medicine. Due to the seriousness of her crimes, she was sentenced to detention in a psychiatric facility. Germany's Federal Court of Justice upheld the conviction, confirming that regular reviews will determine whether her detention remains necessary. The ruling also reinforced the original charges, which included seven counts of grievous bodily harm, fraud, and the illegal use of the title 'doctor'.
