A new social media trend called fibermaxxing is encouraging people to boost their daily fiber intake. Supporters claim it aids digestion, promotes fullness, and helps with weight loss. But experts stress that a balanced approach is key to avoiding side effects.

The trend focuses on eating more high fiber foods to improve gut health and manage weight. Dietitian Jessica McAllister explains that fibermaxxing aims to enhance digestive function, increase satiety, and support long-term weight loss. However, she notes that a calorie deficit remains essential for shedding pounds.

Fiber offers a range of health benefits beyond weight control. Studies link high-fiber diets to lower LDL cholesterol, stable blood sugar, and reduced inflammation. A diet rich in fiber also supports beneficial gut bacteria and lowers the risk of chronic diseases, including colorectal cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

Official guidelines suggest varying fiber needs based on age and gender. Women aged 19 to 30 should aim for 28 grams daily, while those 31 to 50 need 25 grams, and women over 51 require 22 grams. For men, the recommendations are 34 grams for ages 19 to 30, 31 grams for 31 to 50, and 28 grams for those 51 and older.

Good sources of fiber include chia seeds, flaxseeds, oats, chickpeas, and lentils. Other options are quinoa, brown rice, nuts, fruit, beans, prunes, fonio, cabbage, and broccoli. Experts advise increasing fiber intake gradually to prevent bloating or discomfort. Drinking plenty of water is also crucial when adding more fiber to the diet.

No current data shows how many people in Germany have adopted fibermaxxing. But the trend continues to gain attention online as a simple way to improve overall health.

Fibermaxxing may help with digestion and weight management, but balance is important. Gradual increases in fiber, along with proper hydration, can prevent digestive issues. The trend highlights the broader benefits of fiber, from heart health to disease prevention.
