Free Neuwied Lecture Demystifies the Electronic Health Record for Patients

A free public lecture on the electronic health record (EHR) will take place in Neuwied on April 15. The event, titled 'The Electronic Health Record (EHR) – Taking Control of Your Health', aims to help attendees understand and manage their medical data more effectively. Organisers hope to clear up confusion and encourage greater use of the system. The lecture will be held at the Amalie-Raiffeisen Hall, located at Heddesdorfer Straße 33, starting at 5:30 PM. Hosted by the Neuwied Adult Education Center, the session is open to all, though registration is requested to assist with planning. The focus will be on demonstrating how the EHR works and addressing concerns that may prevent people from using it.

Despite its benefits, many remain hesitant about the EHR. A Forsa survey revealed that 71% of respondents do not actively manage their records, while 75% have never explored the system in depth. Common reasons for avoiding it include doubts about its usefulness, worries over data privacy, and perceived complexity. The EHR allows patients to store essential medical documents—such as test results, X-rays, reports, and medication plans—directly on their smartphones. Users retain full control over which healthcare providers can access their data and how long it stays in the system. The lecture seeks to show how straightforward the process can be while reassuring attendees about security and practical advantages.

The event offers an opportunity for the public to learn how the EHR can simplify health management. By addressing misconceptions and demonstrating its user-friendly features, organisers hope to boost confidence in the system. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance.
