Free rollator safety workshops launch for seniors in Recklinghausen and Bottrop
Seniors in Recklinghausen district and Bottrop city will soon have the chance to join free safety workshops for rollator users. The first session takes place on June 11, 2026, in Waltrop, offering practical training and expert advice to boost confidence while out and about. The workshops will run from 9 AM to 12 PM, with no registration needed. Participants can bring their rollators for a full check-up by traffic safety specialists. These experts will adjust the devices to the correct height and ensure they meet safety standards.
An obstacle course will let attendees practise manoeuvring in a controlled setting. Vestische Straßenbahnen GmbH will also provide a public transit bus for boarding and alighting exercises. Reflective materials will be handed out to improve visibility in traffic. Police President Friederike Zurhausen has highlighted the importance of secure rollator use. She noted that proper handling helps users stay focused on their surroundings, reducing risks on roads and pavements.
The initiative aims to give older adults greater security when using their rollators. With hands-on training and expert support, participants can refine their skills in real-world scenarios. The workshops will continue across the region, offering accessible and practical help to all who attend.
