Free Thuringia events offer vital support for family caregivers in 2026

AOK PLUS is hosting two free events in Bad Salzungen as part of Thuringia’s Family Caregivers Week. The sessions aim to support those who look after loved ones at home. Both will take place at the AOK PLUS branch, offering practical advice and legal guidance. The first event, a Care Café, runs on June 2, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. It will give family caregivers a chance to share experiences and pick up useful tips. The informal setting encourages networking and mutual support.

Two days later, on June 4, 2026, the 'Planning Ahead—the Right Way' event takes place at the same time and location. This session focuses on advance directives and powers of attorney. Attendees can even have a power of attorney notarized on the spot.

The need for such support is clear. As of December 31, 2025, nearly 110,000 AOK PLUS insured individuals in Thuringia required care. Of these, over 95,000 relied on home-based assistance, often provided by family members.

Ilona Wojnowski, an AOK PLUS board member, has highlighted the immense effort caregivers put in daily. She stresses that their own health must not be overlooked, making these events a valuable resource. Both sessions are free and open to all family caregivers in the region. The events provide tools to ease daily challenges and plan for the future. Organisers hope they will help lighten the load for those managing care at home.
