Free Wiesbaden Lecture Explores the Mystery of Food Intolerances in December
A free public lecture on food intolerances will take place in Wiesbaden this December. The event, titled A Good Gut Feeling: Understanding Food Intolerances, aims to explain why many people suffer from unexplained discomfort after eating. Around one in five Germans report digestive issues with no obvious trigger, making the topic a growing concern for health experts. The lecture is part of the Understandable Medicine series, scheduled for December 3, 2025. It will run from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Municipal Council Chamber at Wiesbaden City Hall. Admission is free, and no tickets are required.
Three specialists will cover different aspects of food-related health problems. Dr. Hanan Adib-Tezer will speak on *Food Allergies: New and Hidden Allergens on the Rise*, focusing on immune system reactions. Caroline Hehner, a nutrition scientist and diabetes advisor, will then discuss *Nutrition for Metabolic Syndrome and Fatty Liver Disease*. The main talk will explore food intolerances, which differ from allergies. Unlike allergies, these issues stem from digestive disorders rather than immune responses. Common examples include lactose intolerance and fructose malabsorption. Symptoms can range from bloating and cramps to diarrhoea or fatigue, often leaving sufferers unsure of the cause.
The event offers a chance for the public to learn about digestive health from medical professionals. Attendees will hear about the latest research on intolerances, allergies, and diet-related conditions. Organisers encourage anyone experiencing unexplained meal-related discomfort to attend.
