From Isolation to Hope: Filippo's Journey Through Mental Health Recovery
Filippo's life took a sharp turn after he withdrew from society for two years. His isolation left him weighing just 55 kilograms and labelled 'unfit to work' by officials. Now, he is rebuilding his life as a waiter at a restaurant supporting people with mental health struggles.
The crisis began when Filippo's neighbour heard him shouting at church bells in distress. Concerned, the neighbour checked on him, triggering an emotional breakdown. A doctor soon advised Filippo to admit himself to a psychiatric clinic, where he stayed for 46 days.
After his release, Filippo faced a letter declaring him an 'invalid' and unable to work. Determined to move forward, he took a job at Osteria all'Undici, a restaurant helping individuals with mental health or social challenges re-enter the workforce.
Recently, Filippo started filming his colleagues at the restaurant. The project serves as a way to confront his past while raising mental health awareness.
Filippo now works at Osteria all'Undici, focusing on recovery and advocacy. His decision to document his journey highlights the challenges of mental health stigma. The restaurant continues to provide a supportive environment for those re-entering the workforce.
