Garmin has launched an AI-powered nutrition tracker at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The new tool lets users log meals and monitor calorie intake straight from their smartwatches. It is now available to Garmin Connect+ subscribers for a monthly fee of $6.99.
The feature uses AI-driven image recognition to identify food and estimate portion sizes. During a live demo at a Las Vegas restaurant, it correctly recognised dishes like grilled salmon and mixed vegetables. However, early tests showed some inaccuracies, such as mistaking a small serving of corn for a full cup.
Users can manually adjust portions for better tracking. The system also syncs with Garmin Connect, where subscribers get detailed reports on their eating habits. These include comparisons between calorie targets and actual consumption.
Garmin plans to refine the tool before its full launch in late 2026. Improvements will come from beta testing feedback, expanded machine learning training with global food datasets, and input from nutrition experts. Voice commands will also allow hands-free logging on compatible smartwatches.
The nutrition tracker is currently in beta for Garmin Connect+ users. Subscribers can access it for $6.99 per month, with further accuracy updates expected later this year. The feature aims to simplify dietary monitoring by combining AI recognition with a comprehensive food database.
