Consumers are increasingly opting for mineral water - Germans drink more mineral water in 2025 as health trends drive sales

Mineral water remains a firm favourite among German consumers, with sales rising steadily in 2025. The latest figures show a 2.4% increase in total consumption, reaching nearly 10.2 billion litres. Health-conscious habits and shifting tastes appear to be driving the trend.

In 2025, Germans drank an average of 128.8 litres of mineral water per person, up from 125.6 litres the year before. While this marks a clear rise, consumption still falls short of pre-pandemic levels—back in 2019, the figure stood at 139.7 litres per capita.

Sales of flavoured mineral water surged by 18%, making it one of the fastest-growing segments. Still mineral water also saw a notable boost, with a 6.1% increase. Together, these two categories led the market, though carbonated varieties (both high and low) continue to dominate, accounting for over 70% of total sales.

The broader mineral springs sector also expanded, producing 13.2 billion litres in 2025—a 1.2% rise from the previous year. This growth includes mineral water-based soft drinks, reflecting wider demand for refreshing, health-oriented beverages. The upward trend began in 2024, though sales have yet to fully recover to levels seen before the pandemic.

The 2025 figures confirm mineral water's enduring popularity in Germany, with flavoured and still varieties leading the way. As consumer interest in healthier drinks grows, the sector's output continues to climb—though it has not yet matched the peaks of 2019.
