Survey: Four in Five Find Preventive Care Important - But Only Half Actually Go - Germans prioritize health check-ups but most still skip them
Most people in Germany value preventive healthcare, yet many still skip regular check-ups. A recent survey found that 84% of insured individuals see these appointments as important. However, only 42% actually attend them on a consistent basis.
The gap between belief and action is clear. While 61% of respondents feel well-informed about recommended screenings, 34% admit to knowing little or nothing about them. Attendance rates also differ by gender: 49% of women go for regular check-ups, compared to just 34% of men.
Common reasons for missing appointments include lack of time, forgetfulness, and difficulties scheduling. Despite these challenges, 73% of those surveyed think digital reminders would encourage them to attend more often.
The survey did not provide data on how check-up attendance has changed over the past five years. However, the current figures highlight a persistent issue—many recognise the importance of prevention but struggle to follow through.
The findings suggest a need for better support in making preventive care more accessible. Digital reminders could play a key role in improving attendance rates. For now, the gap remains between how much people value these check-ups and how often they actually go.
