Germany's Alcohol Awareness Week urges 'Less is better' in 2026

Alcohol Awareness Week will run across Germany from 13 to 21 June 2026. The event aims to encourage adults to think more carefully about their drinking habits. This year’s campaign carries the slogan 'Alcohol? Less is better!' The initiative is supported by the German Centre for Addiction Issues (DHS). It highlights how alcohol, despite its social acceptance, can lead to serious health, social, and economic problems. Many people underestimate the long-term risks of their consumption.

In Mönchengladbach, the Diakonisches Werk’s Addiction Counseling Center is taking part. Staff will visit local institutions during the week to promote responsible drinking. Their services are free, confidential, and open to anyone affected by alcohol, including family and friends of those struggling.

The centre’s goal is to help individuals recognise problematic behaviour. It also offers support for those seeking to change their habits or assist loved ones in need. The week-long campaign urges people to reflect on their relationship with alcohol. Support is available for those who want to discuss concerns or access professional advice. The counselling services remain accessible beyond the event.
