Fitness Studio Conglomerate LifeFit Continues Shopping Spree - Germany's fitness market reshapes as LifeFit acquires Just Fit in 2025
Germany's fitness industry is undergoing rapid change as larger chains absorb smaller competitors. The latest move comes with LifeFit acquiring Just Fit, a Cologne-based studio chain with 21 locations. The deal follows a string of similar mergers reshaping the market in 2025.
The Federal Cartel Office has approved LifeFit's takeover of Just Fit, adding to the company's existing 203 studios across Germany. These include well-known brands like Fitness First, Barry's, and Elixia. The acquisition is part of a broader trend, with major chains expanding through buyouts.
In 2025 alone, LifeFit also purchased Fit/One, while Basic-Fit took over Clever Fit. Meanwhile, all-inclusive-Fitness (AI Fitness) absorbed both Fit Star and Fitness Future. Despite this consolidation, independent studios continue to thrive by offering tailored, local services.
The industry itself remains strong, with memberships rising to 12.3 million in 2025—a 5.6% increase over the previous year. Fitness centres are also rebranding as health and wellness hubs, attracting more customers. Currently, Germany has 9,647 fitness facilities, reflecting steady growth in the sector.
The merger between LifeFit and Just Fit highlights an ongoing shift toward fewer, larger operators in Germany's fitness market. While big chains dominate, smaller studios still hold appeal for those seeking personalised workouts. With membership numbers climbing, the sector shows no signs of slowing down.
