Journalists alone selected the names, following a strict editorial review process.

Stern and MINQ conducted the research to pinpoint outstanding doctors in the country. Their final list covers a wide range of fields, from cardiology to sports orthopaedics. However, no reliable data exists on how the number of recommended specialists in sports orthopaedics has changed over the past five years compared to other areas.

The selection process relied entirely on journalistic assessment. Stern's editorial team approved the methodology before publication. Once named, recognised physicians can choose to buy a seal for use in their marketing and communications.

While the investigation provides a snapshot of Germany's top medical professionals, gaps remain in tracking long-term trends. The focus stays on the current list rather than historical comparisons.
